GOALKEEPER DEVELOPMENT
Rocklin Youth Soccer Club offers a highly competitive Goalkeeper training program in partnership with POST2POST Goalkeeper Training LLC.
Post2Post goalkeeper training believes the goalkeeper is a specialized position and requires specialized training in order to be successful. Too many times the only training a goalkeeper gets is to put them in the goal and tell them to stop the shots. Not only is the goalkeeper not learning, there is a great chance the goalkeeper will pick up bad habits and lose their confidence. Field players are told what their expectations are in training and goalkeepers deserve the same. Proper technique not only helps keep the ball out of the net but helps prevents injury.
We feel goalkeepers should be well rounded players, possessing all the required skills to play the game.
Depending on how dedicated or specialized a young player wants to be as a goalkeeper, separate individual training can be very beneficial. Training in small groups can also push a young goalkeeper to excel and become better. This is also a great form of confidence building as goalkeepers take pride in their specialized training.
In our view the essential elements of goalkeeping fall under the following categories and subcategories:
- TACTICAL – Positioning, Decision Making, Communication, Box Control, Gap Control, Presence
- TECHNICAL – Footwork, Body Shape, Handling, Diving/Falling, Timing, Recovery, Distribution
- PHYSICAL – Functional Movement, Speed, Agility, Power, Strength"
We stress the basic's and fundamental's. Do not give up the goal that takes the wind out of your team.
